Central Academy had a team of 14 players at the British Taekwondo National Poomsae championships at the K2 Arena, Crawley Sat 28th Feb and Sun 1st Mar.
The competition was the largest British Championship event ever with 423 players from 48 different clubs.
In the A Class Individual Female U50 category Angie retained the British title for the 6th year running - an amazing achievement. Natasha Wilson, a former coloured belt British Champion was competing in the A Class Black Belt U11 division for the first time and beat a strong field of girls from all over the UK to take the A Class title.
Ciaran Mein won Silver in the A Class Male Cadet division and Erin Shaw took a Bronze in the female cadets. Exceptional results considering these two are amongst our top kyorugi players!
Claire Spowart won Silver in the A Class Female U40s and then went on to take Gold in the A Class 2nd Pair category, where she partnered one of the UK's leading poomsae players Chan Sau.
Ciaran and Erin also paired off to take the Cadet Pair British title, rounding off a great tournament for our cadet superstars.
We had further success in the Female Team divisions. Angie, Nicky and Tracey beat the current Commonwealth Champions from England to take the team Gold! And Natasha and Sarah Smullen combined with Ellie Muzeja from Kang Han TKD to take the Team Female U11 title.
There were also Bronze medals for Josh Lawson and Natasha in the U11 Pairs and a Bronze for Eilidh Burke, who was competing at a big event for the first time in a big category. She did an excellent performance and deserved more than her 3rd place finish!
On Sunday our coloured belt ladies took to the mats. Silver medals for Karen, Susan and Lynsey in the coloured belt senior female team category and a fantastic Gold medal for Lynsey Burke who became Senior Female Coloured Belt British Champion in her very first competition. Karen Thomson took a well deserved Bronze medal in the same category.
All in all a fantastic weekend for the Central Academy Poomsae Team coming home from London with 7 Golds, 3 Silvers and 4 Bronze medals! We are now really looking forward to the Northern Ireland International Poomsae Championships in Belfast in June.
A massive CONGRATULATIONS to everyone involved.
