Fantastic results for Team Central at the NTC Championships in Nottingham on 2nd May.
Our players came away with 5 Gold, 6 Silver and 4 Bronze Medals!!
To top off a great weekend the team achieved the Overall Third Place Team Trophy!
Considering it was a huge national event, with all the big clubs in the UK represented, this was a very significant result for our very young team.
Particular mention must go to Hassan Haider winning gold on the junior -48kg division with 3 fantastic matches against top class opposition, including a first round win against an experienced Belgian opponent. Hassan then topped that by winning the senior -54kg category. It was his first time in the seniors and his opponent in the final was 6kg heavier and 6 inches taller but Hassan produced a superb display to take the match 19-8.
The match of the tournament was Teigan Smiths final against a superstar Irish opponent. Teigan came from behind to take the lead with a series of spinning head shots and then fought out of her skin to hang on and take the gold by a couple of points. She is well on the way to following in her big sister's footsteps! Jordyn once again proved she is in a class of her own winning her final after less than a minute! A great day for the Smith sister's and a very proud moment for coaching dad Darren!
Our other Gold medallist was Lauren McKinlay competing at her new weight of -51kg for the first time and producing top class Taekwondo in her two games, which she won comfortably. Lauren showed great versatility, scoring with every kick in the book!
Exciting times ahead as we look forward to lots more tournaments.
CONGRATULATIONS TEAM CENTRAL!
